Today is our patron saint's day in Wales - St David's Day (Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant). And here are some of the little Welsh girls I have collected over the years celebrating their day. When I was at school we celebrated with an Eisteddfod - a day of music, singing, dancing and recitation competitions in the school hall. We didn't go to school dressed in traditional Welsh costume as children do these days, but I think my Mum did - here she is in about 1932 posing in the garden for her father's camera.
And here's a little card I made for Mum today. Realising I didn't have any daffodil stamps I put together a couple of Papertrey flower images stamped in the appropriate colours and hey presto! I added a little grass stamp for the leaves and now I think these could easily pass for daffodils - the national flower of Wales.
Oh, Ann, I love when you make posts like this! Daffodils are a sure sign of spring for me, so I loved hearing about your St. David's Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and touching selection of St David's day things you have put together Ann. Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant hapus to you too :D

Wow Ann! I never knew (but I'm not surprised because I'm from the US). I love learning about these kind of things! The picture of your mom is awesome...definitely something to be cherished. I love old photos that document history! Your card is so creative. You "manufactured" the daffodils perfectly!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your little collection of dolls. I remember going to Wales as a child and wanting a Welsh doll but I never got one! the flowers look exactly like daffs to me, it's a lovely card and a great photo of your Mum.
